Vision

Rwanda will be free from plastic pollution by 2050. SIBO Engineering aims to lead the shift from waste dumping to productive reuse of plastics across the country.

The problem

  • Environmental pollution — plastic waste accumulating in communities and ecosystems
  • Health hazards — exposure to unsafe disposal and burning of plastics
  • Climate change — emissions and environmental damage from unmanaged plastic waste

The solution

Positive use of existing plastics through fabrication of quality plastic tiles from plastic waste — transforming a pollution problem into affordable building and furniture materials.

Products & pricing

  • Plastic tiles: 1,500 RWF per tile
  • Plastic tables: 40,000 RWF each
  • Plastic chairs: 15,000 RWF each

Unit economics

Monthly tiles (1,200 units):

  • Cost: 1,200 × 1,000 RWF = 1,200,000 RWF
  • Revenue: 1,200 × 1,500 RWF = 1,800,000 RWF
  • Monthly gross margin: 600,000 RWF on tiles alone

Furniture sets (4 chairs + 1 table):

  • Cost per set: 70,000 RWF
  • Revenue per set: 100,000 RWF
  • Profit per set: 30,000 RWF

Competition

SIBO Engineering competes against conventional materials such as East Africa granite — offering a recycled-plastic alternative that is lighter, waste-reducing, and locally manufactured from collected plastics.

Growth roadmap

  • Next 2 years: Scale manufacturing to 120 tiles in 8 hours/day
  • Next 5 years: Official launch of SIBO Engineering Co.
  • Next 10 years: Begin exporting recycled plastic products
